The Research Cluster
The EPSRC Research Cluster
The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council is the main UK government agency for funding research and training in engineering and the physical sciences, investing around £740 million a year in a broad range of subjects – from mathematics to materials science, and from information technology to structural engineering.
The EPSRC has funded research into the Digital Economy, creating the Research Cluster “An Agenda for Next Generation Internet”. The Cluster is led by Professor Dame Wendy Hall at the University of Southampton, John Darlington at Imperial Clollege and Marina Jirotka at Oxford University.
The aim is to develop a research roadmap for the NGI in the context of the Digital Economy. It is quite socio-technical in approach but with a strong technical component. The Cluster has been funded to run two workshops – the first of which was held at Imperial College in July 2008 at the beginning of the grant to engage with the community and ask for input, and the second being held now at the end to “unveil” the roadmap and discuss with the community.
